Switched at Birth is an ABC Family television show about two sisters who were, you guessed it, switched at birth. Bay (Vanessa Marano) grew up with the well-to-do Kennish family while Daphne (Katie LeClerc) grew up with struggling single mom Regina Vasquez. While the story seems to set up a simple premise when the two families decide to live together, this show goes much deeper than you'd expect, exploring all facets of different family relationships, while these two girls grow up and try to discover their true identities. In addition to the typical family dramatics, there is a twist -- Daphne is deaf. A lot of the show is done in ASL (American Sign Language) without any spoken dialogue or sound. It's a new concept that the show uses to great effect, really taking you into the world of Daphne and her friends and giving a new angle to typical teenage angst. The show also stars Lea Thompson, Constance Marie and Gilles Marini.
I learned about the show after I was contacted by their costume department to provide some of my Peggy Li Creations
